About Me

Briefly (ha ha):

  • I am a follower of Christ.
  • I am responsible for loving people.
  • I am responsible for loving stewardship of my resources. The planet, the lives of the poor, the opportunity to shut off my voice and listen to people of color — these are pieces that I work on daily.
  • I am a parent and a partner.
  • I am queer (he/him/his or she/her/hers are appropriate pronouns for me).
  • I am a teacher of children’s literature, composition, and creative writing at Pueblo Community College in Pueblo, Colorado.
  • I am a doctoral student in curriculum studies at the University of South Carolina.
  • I am a post-Marxist, non-capitalistic, democratic educator hellbent on maintaining academic freedom of students and faculty and on offering a platform on which students — particularly traditionally marginalized students — can voice their thoughts, fears, off-the-wall ideas, and on-the-wall sticky notes without concerns about reprisal. This includes those students with whom I vehemently disagree.
  • I am a part of the patriarchal hegemony, and I am changing that.
  • I am a dancer.
  • I am a Veteran of the US Army, and I served from 1994-2004, with a final stint in Iraq, after which I became dedicated to a life of peace. I work on that daily.
  • I am currently enthusiastic about studying gender and queer theory applied to pop-culture and children’s literature and the ways in which each influences the other.
  • I am joining my children and my partner for tea in the middle of the living room floor, so I should go.
